This past Sunday, Amy Schumer cemented her position at the top of Hollywood's hierarchy by accepting a Brittania Award alongside a select few actors including Meryl Streep and Harrison Ford. The honor doesn't exactly mean that the comedy mastermind behind Trainwreck and Inside Amy Schumer is jaded now that she's reached Hollywood’s stratosphere—accepting statuettes with iconic actors when she isn't, you know, writing a movie with an Oscar winner, crashing Game of Thrones portraits, negotiating herself multimillion-dollar raises, or planning other pop-culture-domination strategies.

To put the evening in more perspective, Schumer was presented the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy—an honor she accepted after admitting, “I'm a little drunk.” Schumer continued, “I'm a huge Chaplin fan. I am connected to him because he wrote most of his work and people also referred to him as a little tramp, too.” “I'll never forget the first time I saw him just running around that chocolate factory,” the comedian joked. “When he got that golden ticket, whose heart didn't jump out of their chest? [...] Watching the movie inspired my boyfriend at the time to take a trip up my chocolate river.” When the audience responded uncertainly, the USA Today writes that Schumer deadpanned, “You guys don't have anal over the pond?” In case you were wondering how Ford reacted to the risqué joke, here is a photo a fellow audience member Instagrammed in which Han Solo himself can't help but crack up into his hands. By the time it was Ford's turn to accept his trophy, the actor admitted that he couldn't top the previous acceptance speeches—Schumer's included. “It's a great honor,” he said according the L.A. Times It's also very late, and every one has made a really good speech. I didn't prepare a speech. I could barely get dressed.” Now if only Schumer could merge her new acquaintances with her celebrity super-friend group. . . can you imagine the Instagram opportunities? |
