Patricia Arquette took home the award for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars 2015 and used her big moment to shine a light on gender equality.
Having done all the usual award acceptance speech gumpf; you know, thanking her cast, crew, friends, family, loving partner etcetera, etcetera, she pulled out a slip of paper and launched into a politically-charged tirade.
It went something like this: 'To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s time to have wage equality once and for all. And equal rights for women in the United States of America.'
