Meryl Streep and Lena Dunham are amongst the stars calling for the sex trade not to be decriminalised.
A whole list of celebrities have signed an open letter calling for Amnesty International to reject the propsosal.
More than three thousand people have signed the online petition, including Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Emma Thompson and Emily Blunt.
Meryl Streep leads the way

Addressed to Amnesty International's secretary general Salil Shetty, executive director Steven Hawkins, and the board of directors, it reads: “Every day, we combat male access to women’s bodies through power and control, from female genital mutilation to forced marriage; from domestic violence to violation of reproductive rights.

"The exchange of money for such access does not eliminate the violence women face in the sex trade.

"Amnesty’s reputation in upholding human rights for every individual would be severely and irreparably tarnished if it adopts a policy that sides with buyers of sex, pimps and other exploiters rather than with the exploited.”

Amnesty International will meet to discuss the motion in Dublin, Ireland next month.

The human rights organisation is reviewing the policy ahead of concerns that present criminalisation is liable to lead to abuse against sex workers.

However after being met with a flurry of opposition, the group released a statement reminding people that a decision is yet to be made while listing factors they need to consider.

It read: "These violations include physical and sexual violence, arbitrary arrest and detention, extortion and harassment, forced HIV testing and medical interventions and exclusions from healthcare, housing and other social and legal benefits."

The petition can be found at change.org.
