Before you book your plane ticket to Germany and start lining up a month early, be warned: the Berlinale Talents have already been chosen. Specifically, they are 300 “emerging film professionals from around the world,” and they were selected from over 2,700 applicants. (Did those applicants know that the masterclass would be led by Meryl?) Apparently hers is among a series of workshops which will take place beginning February 13. Sadly, more information about the Meryl Streep masterclass is not provided, but that doesn't stop us from fantasizing—Will there be homework? (“Write 3,000 words on my greatest performance. That's a trick question. Each performance is my greatest.”) Will there be a T.A.? (Glenn Close or Jessica Lange, sitting bitterly in a corner.) Will Streep just start the class by rolling in a 90s-era TV, handing Close a stack of VHS copies of her films, barking, “in order,” and then leaving? Hopefully all of these questions will be answered next month, if the film festival kindly decides to livestream the masterclass. Please, Berlin? |
